Shuffling is a dance style that originated in the 80s and became popular at raves. Nowadays, shuffling can be seen at almost any rave, with people enjoying themselves and showing off their skills. There are over 10 styles of shuffling, each requiring a lot of practice and skill to master. Watching talented shufflers on Instagram and TikTok has become one of my favorite pastimes.

Some of the most well-known shuffling styles include Original shuffle, Klaplongen, Muzz, Hakken, Melbourne shuffle, Trance shuffle, Hard shuffle, Jumpstyle, Criss-cross shuffle, and Open shuffle.

In the rave scene there's a unique subculture of Kandi enthusiast. It's part of most ravers to become a part of this community due to the friendliness, openess, and creative aspects of it. Kandi are colorful beads that are strung together to create bracelets, neckalces, and other accessories that you can wear and share with others.

You can make all types of Kandi. One of the most popular ones are necklaces that have emotional words that mean the most to you. They can be love, friendship, a dj's name, or anything. Once you meet someone you get along with at a festival as a token of friendship you trade your sentimental kandi with them and they give one of theirs back to you. It's a unique and powerful moment. It's a way of expressing your values and strenghtenings the bonds between each other. Now, when you go back home you'll always have a memory of the event and that person you met.

As you trade you do a PLUR handshake (peace, love, unity, and respect). These are values embodied in the act of kandi trading and the rave community as a whole.

1. For peace, use make a peace sign and touch the other persons fingers

2. For love you make a half heart and join it with the other person's half.

3. For unity, you clasp your hands together and interlock your fingers with them.

4. For respect, you trade your kandi through your locked hands, one at a time.
